October 8, 2025 | GSU – Mosqueda Campus

To promote awareness and understanding of gender-related issues and the Safe Spaces Act, GSU Mosqueda Campus conducted a Gender Sensitivity Training and Forum on Republic Act No. 11313 on October 8, 2025, at the GSU Mosqueda Campus Conference Hall.

The event was organized by the GAD Coordinator for Mosqueda Campus, Instructor Loveson C. Gallos, and attended by all first-year students, selected faculty and staff, and the GAD Director, Mrs. Frennie D. Zarate. It featured two esteemed resource speakers, Dr. Mercy L. Diaz, Head of the Procurement Management Office of ISAT University, and Atty. Vail Michael P. Nagaynay, Attorney IV and Head of the Legal Unit of GSU.

Dr. Diaz discussed “Understanding the Safe Spaces Act,” where she described and identified various forms of gender-based sexual harassment in different settings. She emphasized the importance of recognizing unacceptable behaviors, creating safe environments, and taking proper action when witnessing or experiencing harassment. Dr. Diaz also reminded students to be firm in asserting their boundaries, stating, “If it’s unwanted, it is harassment.”

Meanwhile, Atty. Nagaynay delivered an in-depth discussion on Republic Act No. 11313, also known as the Safe Spaces Act, explaining its legal implications and how it protects individuals from gender-based harassment in public spaces, schools, workplaces, and online platforms.

The activity aimed to equip students with essential knowledge and awareness of their rights and responsibilities under the law, encouraging them to uphold respect, equality, and safety in their daily interactions. With this program, GSU underlines its dedication to creating an inclusive, gender-sensitive learning environment where each person feels respected, empowered, and protected.
