October 28, 2025 | Guimaras State University

The second day of the Student and Faculty Exchange Program between Universitas Pakuan (UNPAK), Bogor, Indonesia, and Guimaras State University (GSU) was filled with courtesy visits, cultural immersion, and academic exploration.

The day began with a courtesy visit to the Office of the University President, where the UNPAK delegation was warmly welcomed by Dr. Lilian Diana B. Parreño, University President. Dr. Parreño expressed her appreciation for the partnership and her optimism that this exchange would pave the way for mutual learning, academic collaboration, and research development between the two universities. Joining her in welcoming the guests were Mrs. Janet R. Aleman, Vice President for Administration and Finance, and Dr. Erly M. Martir, Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Following the meeting, the delegation was brought to several of Guimaras’ heritage and tourism sites, including the iconic Roca Encantada and selected mango farms. The visit provided the guests with an opportunity to appreciate the province’s rich cultural and agricultural heritage while exploring potential research collaborations in the fields of agriculture, culture, and sustainable tourism.

The team then proceeded to the GSU Baterna Campus, where they paid a courtesy call to Campus Director Dr. Rhea Joy D. Flora, who warmly welcomed the group and expressed her support for the continuing partnership between GSU and UNPAK.

To conclude the day’s activities, the delegation visited the Guimaras National Research, Development, and Production Support Center (BPI) in San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras. The visit aimed to explore datasets and gather information on mango production, tree profiles, and fruit varieties, with the objective of identifying possible applications of Machine Learning and data analytics in agricultural research.

Day two successfully blended academic diplomacy and cultural appreciation, highlighting both institutions’ shared commitment to global engagement, research innovation, and international collaboration.
