December 16, 2025 | Iloilo City

Sixteen first-year students of the Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) program conducted a study visit and library tour in Iloilo City on December 16, 2025. The activity was part of their course Introduction to Library and Information Science, aimed at exposing students to the different types of libraries and information centers, including academic, special, public, and school libraries.
The educational tour was conducted under the guidance of their Program Head and Mosqueda Campus Librarian, Instr. Kristine Rosero, who accompanied the students throughout the visit.

One of the institutions visited was the SEAFDEC/AQD Library in Tigbauan, a special library dedicated to aquatic research. The students were oriented by the Officer-in-Charge Librarian, who also addressed their questions regarding library operations and specialized collections.

The visit included a guided tour of FishWorld, further enriching the students’ learning experience.

The group also visited the University of San Agustin Library, where students were introduced to its library facilities, services, and collections.

This was followed by a visit to the Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Art, where students explored various artworks showcasing not only Iloilo’s creativity but also the rich artistic heritage of the Philippines.

Another highlight of the tour was the visit to the Central Philippine University (CPU) Library, where the students were warmly welcomed. The visit was particularly meaningful as it is the alma mater of Instr. Rosero. Students were delighted upon seeing their instructor’s hardbound thesis displayed in the library, inspiring them to pursue excellence in their academic journey. The group was then toured around the different book sections and facilities of the library.

The tour continued at the Iloilo Provincial Library and Archives, a public library that preserves local history and provides access to information for the community.

Lastly, the students visited Museo Iloilo, where they were exposed to the rich culture, history, and arts of Iloilo and the Philippines.
The BLIS study visit and library tour provided students with firsthand experience and deeper appreciation of the diverse roles libraries and information centers play in education, research, and cultural preservation, strengthening their foundation as future information professionals.
