The College of Science and Technology (CST) of Guimaras State University conducted an extension activity on Data Privacy Awareness for the students and faculty of Supang National High School on March 6, 2026.

The activity focused on promoting awareness of Republic Act No. 10173, commonly known as the Data Privacy Act of 2012, which protects individuals’ personal information and promotes responsible data handling practices.

Serving as the resource speaker was Dr. Simeon Cainday III, who shared valuable insights on the importance of safeguarding personal data in the digital age. During the session, he discussed the fundamental principles of data privacy, common online risks, and practical ways students and teachers can protect their personal information when using digital platforms.

Dr. Cainday also highlighted the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in modern technology, emphasizing both its benefits and potential risks. He encouraged participants to use AI responsibly and to remain mindful of privacy and ethical considerations when interacting with AI-powered tools and digital systems.

The activity was assisted by selected CST faculty members who helped facilitate the discussion and engagement with participants. Through this extension initiative, CST continues to strengthen its commitment to community engagement, digital literacy, and responsible technology use among communities.
