CST Researchers Showcase AI and Machine Learning Studies at ISUFST CICT Week and 2nd ICT International Research Conference 2026

Faculty and student researchers from the College of Science and Technology (CST) of Guimaras State University actively participated in the CICT Week and 2nd ICT International Research Conference 2026 hosted by Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) in collaboration with University of Brawijaya on March 4, 2026 at the ISUFST Dingle Campus.

The conference gathered faculty and student researchers from different universities who presented innovative studies and technological solutions addressing global and local challenges. With the theme “Resilience and Adaptation: Research for a More Equitable and Secure World,” the event served as a platform for academic collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the promotion of research-driven solutions in the field of information and communication technology.

Representing CST were faculty and student researchers who showcased studies focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applications. Among the faculty presenters was Dr. Simeon Cainday III, who presented his research titled “Detection of Banana (Musa Acuminata x Balbisiana) Diseases Using Convolutional Neural Networks.” His outstanding presentation earned him the Best Presenter Award in the Faculty Category.

Another faculty researcher, Dr. Lea P. Ymalay, also shared her study titled “Comparison of Machine Learning Classifiers in Pests and Diseases Detection of Mangifera Indica Leaves.”

Student researchers from CST likewise took part in presenting innovative technology-based solutions. Salvi Joy Estember, presented the study “Water Incident Reporting and Management System with GIS and Machine Learning Prediction.” Meanwhile, Jomel Jed Ronzales introduced “Island AidHub: Mobile Platform for Coordinating Humanitarian Aid and Assistance with AI.” Another student presenter, Zhayen Elias Sorilla, showcased “MyGuimaras: Eco-Tourism Circuit Mobile Application with Large Language Model.”

Through their participation, CST researchers highlighted the college’s strong commitment to advancing research in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and digital systems development. The event also provided valuable opportunities for collaboration, academic exchange, and exposure to international research perspectives.

The participation of CST faculty and students in this international research conference reflects the college’s continuing dedication to producing impactful research that contributes to technological innovation and community development.
