NSTP Holds Seminar on Environmental Protection, Drug Education, DRRM, and National Security Concerns

September 13, 2025 | GSU Mosqueda Campus

The National Service Training Program (NSTP) of Guimaras State University conducted a seminar on September 13, 2025, at the Mosqueda Campus, gathering all first-year students enrolled in NSTP classes. The activity aimed to equip students with knowledge on pressing societal issues while instilling awareness and responsibility as future nation-builders.

The seminar featured a lineup of resource speakers from various agencies and organizations. Officers from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) of Buenavista led the discussion on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM), emphasizing preparedness, safety protocols, and community resilience. They also taught students how to perform basic first aid and administer CPR as part of disaster readiness training.

For Drug Education, representatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6 tackled the dangers of illegal drugs, their effects on individuals and communities, and the government’s continuing campaign against substance abuse. Students were reminded of their vital role in drug prevention through informed decision-making and advocacy.

The National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) Region 6 handled the topic on National Security Concerns, highlighting issues that threaten peace, order, and sovereignty. The speaker encouraged students to value patriotism and resilience, leaving them with a powerful message: “Don’t give up on our country.”

One of NICA’s officers also shared a personal testimony of once being part of the CPP-NPA and how he was able to turn his life around by choosing to support the government and dedicate himself to promoting peace and nation-building.

On Environmental Protection, a speaker from Dagatnon Environment Buenavista shared insights on sustainable practices, conservation efforts, and community initiatives that protect natural resources. The speaker emphasized the importance of reducing waste, specifically highlighting the word “Refuse” as part of responsible consumption, and reminded the students that “every small action counts” in protecting the environment.

Through this seminar, the NSTP continues to serve as a platform for students to develop awareness, civic responsibility, and social commitment. By addressing themes on disaster readiness, health and safety, security, and the environment, the program ensures that GSU students are not only academically equipped but also socially responsible and community-oriented.
