May 27, 2025 | Jordan, Guimaras

The Provincial High Value Crops Development Program Coordinators Meeting convened on May 27, 2025, focusing on the presentation of accomplishments per municipality, data capturing, and the introduction of a web-based tool developed by the Guimaras State University – College of Science and Technology (GSU-CST) for commodity mapping.

Adrian J. Forca, MIT, Dean of CST, and James Ryan B. Ga, CST Research Coordinator, spearheaded the meeting. They collaborated with Joejin Galvez, Senior Agriculturist, along with high-value crops coordinators from across the province. Participants shared municipality-specific progress and discussed approaches for improving data management and crop monitoring in Guimaras.

A key highlight of the session was the demonstration of GSU-CST’s web tool for commodity mapping, designed to enhance the real-time tracking and visualization of high-value crops throughout the island. The tool aims to assist the agriculture sector in decision-making, resource allocation, and sustainability monitoring by offering digital solutions rooted in academic research and innovation.

This initiative strengthens the link between academic institutions and local government units, reinforcing evidence-based planning and agricultural advancement. The meeting also emphasized the importance of accurate and up-to-date data to guide interventions and strategies for crop development in the province.
