GSU Holds NSTP Orientation for Incoming First-Year Students at Mosqueda Campus

July 31, 2025 | GSU Mosqueda Campus

In a bid to provide a clearer understanding of the National Service Training Program (NSTP), Guimaras State University (GSU) – Mosqueda Campus successfully conducted an orientation for incoming first-year students of the College of Science and Technology (CST) and College of Business and Management (CBM) on July 31, 2025, at the Mosqueda Campus Conference Hall.

The orientation was spearheaded by NSTP Director Ma. XY J. Yanguas, who delivered the statement of purpose. In her message, she emphasized the significance of NSTP in shaping responsible, service-oriented citizens and equipping students with practical knowledge and skills relevant to nation-building.

To help the students make informed decisions about their NSTP component, detailed overviews were presented by key speakers. The orientation on the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) was led by LTC Jose A. Villasis PA (RES), while Instr. Mickey Sorongon provided an insightful discussion on the Literacy Training Service (LTS). Rie Nier T. Lacamba comprehensively discussed the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS).

Also present during the activity were ROTC cadets, NSTP coordinators, and several faculty members who supported the successful execution of the event.

The orientation aimed to help freshmen understand the objectives, activities, and scope of each NSTP component. By introducing the students to the structure and benefits of ROTC, LTS, and CWTS, the university seeks to empower them to choose the program that best suits their interests and aligns with their sense of civic duty.

With the collaborative efforts of the NSTP office and academic departments, the orientation served as an essential first step in preparing students for active involvement in community service and national development.
