The College of Science and Technology (CST) proudly participated in the Kabataan FIRST 2.0 Hackathon: From Ideas to Impact, held at the Guimaras State University (GSU) Main Campus on September 29–30, 2025.



The two-day hackathon was organized by the Province of Guimaras in partnership with Guimaras State University, Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) through UMWAD Western Visayas, Department of Science and Technology VI, Fyrlab Accelerator, Department of Trade and Industry – Guimaras, Department of Information and Communications Technology – Guimaras, SK Federation of Guimaras, and the Guimaras Island Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Among the ten BSIT students representing CST, one team composed of five members secured 2nd Place in the prestigious competition. The winning team was composed of:
* Salvi Joyce V. Estember
* May Pearl G. Dela Vega
* Lucel F. Depiedra
* Paolo M. Nanagad
* Eve Yuri D. Ariza

The team’s outstanding performance earned them a ₱12,000 cash prize, a ₱1,500 gift certificate from The Pitstop Restaurant & Mango Island Café Food Products, and special gift products from Parolas.


The hackathon provided participants the opportunity to showcase their innovative ideas in addressing pressing issues across priority sectors, including agribusiness, tourism, fisheries and aquaculture, information and communications technology, and manufacturing and creative industries. Guided by mentors and industry experts, the students refined their proposals and presented sustainable, technology-driven solutions aimed at creating real impact in the community.
The victory of the CST team is a testament to the college’s strong commitment to nurturing innovation, critical thinking, and leadership among its students. Their success not only reflects academic excellence but also reinforces CST’s vital role in contributing to the socio-economic development of Guimaras and the wider Western Visayas region.
