The College of Science and Technology (CST) of Guimaras State University (GSU) successfully conducted its first community extension activity for the year 2026 on February 11, 2026, at Good Shepherd’s Fold Inc. (GSFI), Salvacion, Buenavista, Guimaras. The activity centered on Republic Act 10173, also known as the Data Privacy Act, with the goal of educating students and faculty members on the responsible handling of personal data.

The session featured Dr. Simeon Cainday III, CST Extension Coordinator, as the resource speaker, with CST Extension Coordinator Dr. Reiner Jun C. Alminaza, present alongside selected CST faculty members who supported the conduct of the activity. Participants included GSFI students and their faculty members, who actively engaged in the discussions and learning activities.

The extension activity aimed to increase awareness and understanding of data privacy, particularly the proper collection, processing, and protection of personal information. During the lecture, the speaker emphasized the importance of responsible data management and introduced key guiding principles summarized through the keywords Consent, Compliance, and Good Faith, encouraging participants to apply these values in both academic and personal contexts.

Through interactive discussions and practical examples, the session highlighted real-life situations where data privacy plays a crucial role, helping participants better understand their rights and responsibilities when handling personal information.

This outreach initiative reflects CST’s commitment to community engagement and education by empowering learners beyond the university through relevant and timely topics. The activity not only strengthened partnerships between GSU and GSFI but also reinforced the importance of promoting digital responsibility and ethical practices in today’s technology-driven society.
