The GSU Mosqueda Campus held a meaningful symposium titled “Beginning with Purpose: Living Our Core Values” on August 26, 2026, designed to inspire students, faculty, and staff to begin the new academic year with a renewed sense of purpose, character, and commitment to the university’s core values.
The symposium was organized by Prof. Antonieta Espin, Campus Ministry Coordinator, and was conducted in two sessions. The morning session gathered all first-year students at the GSU Mosqueda Conference Hall, while the afternoon session was held at the Multimedia Center for the faculty and staff.
The activity featured two inspiring speakers: Coach Arvin Jay Tinampay, Campus Missionary of Victory Jordan, and Pastor Agustin Prudente Jr., Senior Pastor of Fundamental Baptist Church.
Coach Arvin centered his message on purpose, reminding participants that their uniqueness has a purpose and that each individual has a meaningful role to fulfill. He introduced the concept of Ikigai, encouraging participants to reflect on what gives direction and meaning to their lives and work.
For the faculty and staff, he also shared the 3Ds of Purpose—Direction, Design, and Drive. He emphasized that direction is discovered through design, reminding participants to align their daily energy and actions with their core purpose, while drive is fueled by one’s “WHY.” Coach Arvin left a powerful reminder: “Anchor your WHY in God.” The message encouraged educators and university personnel to ground their work, service, and aspirations in a deeper sense of purpose.
Meanwhile, Pastor Agustin Prudente Jr. highlighted the importance of living out the core values of Guimaras State University—being God-fearing, People-Centered, Pro-Environment, Selfless Public Service, and Respect for Human Dignity. His message emphasized that these values should not merely remain institutional principles but should be reflected in the daily actions, decisions, and interactions of every member of the university community.
Pastor Jhun Cusa, Senior Pastor of Victory Jordan also prayed a blessing for students to close the morning session.
Through the symposium, students and campus personnel were given an opportunity to pause and reflect on the deeper meaning behind their roles and responsibilities. It served as a meaningful reminder that the beginning of a new academic year is not only about setting academic goals, but also about strengthening one’s character, discovering purpose, and choosing to live according to values.
With purpose as its starting point, the GSU Mosqueda Campus looks forward to an academic year marked by meaningful learning, purposeful service, and a stronger commitment to the values that define the university community.
