GSU Joins 5th National GAD Focal Point System (GFPS) Convention

The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) successfully conducted the 5th National GAD Focal Point System (GFPS) Convention with the theme “Reaping Gains, Celebrating Milestones, and Strengthening the Roles of GFPS for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment” on September 1–3, 2025, at Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, Ortigas Avenue, Quezon City.

The three-day national convention gathered GAD Focal Point System members and stakeholders across the country to raise awareness on the most recent policies and issues on Gender and Development (GAD), strengthen the capacities of GFPS members, celebrate milestones, and recognize contributions in advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Among the representatives of Guimaras State University (GSU) in the convention was Instr. Loveson Gallos, GAD Coordinator of Mosqueda Campus and Program Head of the BS Information System program. Various plenary sessions featured distinguished speakers who shared insights and strategies on pressing gender issues and advocacy efforts.

Among the key topics highlighted during the convention were:
– The role of the Commission on Human Rights as Gender Ombud
– Women’s right to health and reproductive health
– Women in leadership and political participation
– Representation of women in media and film
– Protection from gender-based violence
– Challenges of women in crisis, disasters, and conflict-affected areas
– Women’s rights to social protection and education
– Youth issues and gender identity and expression
– A special tribute to the 50th Anniversary of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW)

The event served not only as a platform for knowledge-sharing but also as a celebration of the progress made in advancing gender equality in the country. It underscored the vital role of GFPS members and partner institutions like GSU in continuously promoting inclusive policies, programs, and advocacies that empower women, uphold gender equality, and safeguard their rights.
