GSU Joins AI FEST 2025: Three-Day AI Research Forum and Innovation Colloquium on Responsible AI

August 11-13, 2025 | Richmonde Hotel, Iloilo City

Guimaras State University (GSU) participated in the three-day AI Research Forum and AI Innovation Colloquium hosted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) from August 11–13, 2025, at Richmonde Hotel, Iloilo City. With the theme “Coding a Better Future: Responsible AI for Cities and Communities,” the event brought together government leaders, academic institutions, and industry practitioners to discuss and advance the state of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Philippines.

Among the GSU participants were the Program Heads, along with permanent faculty and staff of the College of Science and Technology (CST).

The forum opened with a keynote address on “Coding a Better Future: Responsible AI for Smart and Sustainable Cities and Communities,” which set the tone for the discussions that followed. Sessions highlighted AI research and development priorities and the need to accelerate government R&D programs and the adoption of AI across various sectors.

A research competition also took place, featuring three distinct tracks:
1. AI for Health and Life Sciences
2. AI for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Resources
3. AI for Education, Humanities, and Arts

Beyond research, the forum explored policies, strategies, ethics, and education in AI, with prominent speakers stressing the importance of responsible innovation. Special sessions tackled accelerating business through AI and unlocking the potential of AI for scaling up MSMEs.

The event also showcased lightning talks from startups such as GDSBot (ethical hacking training), SECON (educational platform), and ArticuLit (mobile English learning app), each demonstrating the diversity and potential of AI-driven innovations.

The three-day seminar was a comprehensive and well-structured event that successfully provided a platform for interdisciplinary discussions on AI. By covering a wide scope, from policy and ethics to academic research and commercial applications, the event reinforced the Philippines’ commitment to building a responsible, inclusive, and innovative AI ecosystem for cities, communities, and institutions.
