GSU and HELP University, Malaysia Hold Exploratory Meeting for Future Collaboration

An exploratory meeting between Guimaras State University (GSU) and HELP University, Malaysia was held via Zoom on October 9, 2025, to discuss potential areas of collaboration and strengthen academic ties between the two institutions.

Representing GSU were Dr. Lilian Diana B. Parreño, University President; Dr. Helen Vilbar, Director for International Affairs (IA); and Prof. Adrian J. Forca, Dean of the College of Science and Technology (CST). From HELP University, Mr. Stephen We Ghee Kean and Mr. Jian Hua Tan participated in the virtual meeting.

The session began with introductions of participants from both universities. Mr. Stephen We Ghee Kean then presented an overview of HELP University, sharing how it started as a small institution and has since grown into a full-fledged university known for its excellence in business, accounting, finance, and entrepreneurship. He also highlighted the university’s wide range of programs in psychology, computer science, business administration, data analytics, law, and communication, as well as its Master’s and PhD programs in business, education, psychology, and computing.

In her message, Dr. Parreño expressed gratitude to HELP University for the opportunity to explore a partnership and conveyed her optimism for a meaningful collaboration between the two universities.

Dr. Vilbar, as the Director for International Affairs, also delivered a message underscoring GSU’s commitment to internationalization and fostering global academic linkages.

Meanwhile, Prof. Forca presented GSU’s existing international partner universities and highlighted the activities under its Internationalization Program. He proposed several possible collaborations with HELP University, including:
– Research mentoring
– Research collaboration
– Collaborate on International Conferences
– Community extension Programs
– Possible dual degree programs in Information Technology and Computer Science

The meeting concluded with a discussion on the potential signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) and Memoranda of Agreement (MOA) in the future to formalize the partnership. Both universities expressed enthusiasm for pursuing further dialogue and working toward a mutually beneficial collaboration in the coming months.
