November 19, 2025 | Guimaras State University

In response to the rising number of bomb threat incidents reported in several educational institutions across Iloilo City, the Guimaras State University administration has released Memorandum No. 173, reinforcing campus safety and security protocols to protect all students, personnel, and university property.

University President Dr. Lillian Diana B. Parreño directed all GSU personnel and students to strictly observe updated guidelines whenever a bomb threat is received or suspected on campus. These measures aim to ensure preparedness, proper reporting, and orderly response during potential emergencies.

Key Guidelines for Handling Bomb Threats

When receiving a bomb threat through call, text, email, or written note, the memo emphasizes the following actions:

  • Remain calm and avoid panic.
  • Do not terminate the call or delete the message.
  • Immediately report the incident to the Security Services Unit.
  • Document important details such as the message content, sender information, time received, voice description, noises, and other observations.
  • Avoid touching or inspecting any suspicious items.
  • Only the University President or the Information Unit is authorized to release official statements.
  • Personnel and students must not spread unverified information to prevent unnecessary fear and confusion.

Evacuation Procedures

In case an evacuation is ordered, the memorandum instructs the community to:

  • Evacuate calmly and quickly using designated routes.
  • Avoid using mobile phones or radios near the suspected area.
  • Proceed to pre-identified assembly areas at a safe distance from buildings.
  • Faculty members must closely supervise students to ensure an orderly evacuation.

Call for Cooperation

The GSU administration stresses that vigilance and strict adherence to these guidelines are essential in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment. All faculty, staff, and students are expected to fully comply with the strengthened protocols.

The University President closed the memorandum by emphasizing that every member of the GSU community plays a critical role in safeguarding the campus.
