The four faculty members of the College of Science and Technology (CST) have successfully completed the 10-day training under the Advancing Technology in Tertiary Education through Artificial Intelligence (Project ATTAIN) Program, an initiative under the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Higher Education Upskilling and Study for Advancement of Staff and Faculty (HUSAY) Grant.
The CST participants—Dr. Lea P. Ymalay, Dr. Reiner Jun G. Alminaza, Prof. Divon G. Tamdang, and Dr. Simeon J. Cainday III—completed the intensive training designed to equip educators with practical knowledge and skills in integrating Artificial Intelligence into Higher Education. The program required a two-hour daily commitment, with participants engaging in synchronous learning and hands-on asynchronous activities through the program’s Google-based learning environment.
Over the course of ten days, the participants completed two major phases of the program: Phase 1: Creation and Production (Days 1–6) and Phase 2: Policy and Governance (Days 7–10). Each session progressively guided the participants from understanding AI in education to creating, reviewing, and integrating AI-enhanced learning materials.
Phase 1: Creation and Production
The first six days focused on developing practical AI-enhanced instructional materials and workflows:
1. Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education
2. Prompting for Instructional Design
3. The Gemini Production Studio
4. Grounding AI with NotebookLM
5. Closing the Loop: Alignment & Assessment
6. Production Lab: Assembling the First Full Draft
Phase 2: Policy and Governance
The final four days shifted the focus toward responsible AI use, quality assurance, and the integration of AI-enhanced materials into actual courses:
7. Academic Integrity and Classroom Policy
8. Quality Review and Stress Testing
9. Packaging and Syllabus Integration
10. The Curated Showcase and Community Kickoff
The training emphasized that AI should serve as an assistant to educators rather than a replacement for their expertise. Participants were encouraged to remain the final editors and decision-makers while applying critical judgment, empathy, and institutional context to AI-generated outputs.
As Project ATTAIN graduates, the four faculty members will gain continued access to the program’s resource library, including facilitation guides, prompt templates, and reference materials. They will also receive a shareable certificate of completion, an invitation to the ATTAIN Alumni Network, and priority access to future ATTAIN sessions and advanced learning modules.
The successful completion of the 10-day training reflects the determination, commitment, and perseverance of the four CST faculty members in pursuing continuous professional development and embracing emerging technologies in education.
The knowledge and skills gained from the program are expected to contribute to more effective instructional design, enhanced learning experiences, and responsible integration of artificial intelligence in the classroom.
