Guimaras State University (GSU) strengthened its efforts toward international academic collaboration through a virtual collaborative meeting with Foundation University (FU) of Dumaguete and Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) Malaysia via Zoom.
Representing GSU-CST was Prof. Adrian J. Forca, CST Dean, joined by the selected faculty members from Foundation University and Ts. Dr. Halimaton Saadiah Hakimi from UTP.
The meeting served as a platform for the three institutions to explore potential areas of collaboration that would provide expanded academic, research, and cultural opportunities for their respective students and faculty members. Prof. Forca presented the proposed areas of partnership, anchored on GSU’s core goals of Instruction, Research, Extension, and Publication.
Among the proposed collaborations was the Student Exchange Program, which aims to provide students with opportunities to gain international academic exposure and experience while strengthening their competencies beyond the classroom. A Faculty Exchange Program was also proposed, with participating faculty members expected to conduct Faculty Mobility Lectures at partner institutions.
The institutions also explored the possibility of conducting Collaborative Webinars, where each partner university would send at least one lecturer to participate in short online learning sessions. This initiative would provide students and faculty with opportunities to learn from experts from different academic and cultural backgrounds.
Another major area discussed was Research Collaboration, particularly the conduct of joint research projects intended for publication. The proposed activities include research co-mentoring, participation in partner-hosted conferences, and reciprocal institutional visits.
Other areas of potential collaboration include Community Extension Services, Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), and Cultural Immersion Programs, providing opportunities for the institutions to work together not only in academic activities but also in community engagement and cross-cultural learning.
During the meeting, Foundation University also presented an overview of the institution, including its background and academic program offerings, allowing the participants to gain a better understanding of the university and identify possible areas for academic partnership.
The proposed collaboration between GSU, Foundation University, and UTP marks another step toward expanding internationalization, academic mobility, research partnerships, and cross-cultural engagement.
