Guimaras State University (GSU), in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Malaysia, continued to strengthen its international academic engagement through a lecture on “Immersive Learning: Transforming Education Through Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR)” on October 18, 2026, at the Agri-Eco Convention Hall, GSU–Salvador Campus.

The lecture was delivered by Ts. Dr. Halimaton Saadiah Hakimi, UTP Lead Delegation, as part of the ongoing Faculty and Student Mobility Program between the two institutions.

The activity was attended by students enrolled in ED 225 at the GSU Graduate School, together with 22 student delegates from UTP.

During the lecture, Dr. Hakimi discussed the potential of augmented and virtual reality technologies to transform educational experiences by creating more interactive and immersive learning environments. The session highlighted how these technologies can provide learners with opportunities to explore concepts beyond conventional classroom instruction.

Adding a practical dimension to the discussion, participants were given the opportunity to experience VR technology firsthand through a hands-on demonstration. The immersive activity allowed students to explore the technology while gaining a better understanding of its potential applications in education and learning.

The lecture also encouraged active participation, as attendees raised questions and sought further clarification from the resource speaker. Their engagement fostered an interactive exchange of ideas and perspectives on the integration of emerging technologies into teaching and learning.

In addition to the academic discussions, the activity featured an intermission performance, showcasing the participants’ talents and adding a cultural element to the gathering.

They also gave a small token for the UTP student delegates.

The lecture served as another meaningful avenue for knowledge exchange between GSU and UTP, emphasizing the importance of technological innovation, experiential learning, and international academic collaboration. Through initiatives such as the Faculty and Student Mobility Program, both institutions continue to explore opportunities to enrich learning experiences and prepare students for an increasingly technology-driven world.
