October 7, 2026 | Multimedia Center – GSU Mosqueda Campus

Honoring the invaluable dedication, passion, and service of educators, Guimaras State University (GSU) Mosqueda Campus held a meaningful Teachers’ Day Celebration on October 7, 2026, at the campus Multimedia Center. Organized by Campus Ministry Coordinator Prof. Antonieta S. Espin, the activity brought together GSU Mosqueda faculty and staff under the theme “Teachers who Inspire, Minds that shine: A celebration of Dedication, Passion, and Service.”

The program featured key guest speakers who offered inspiring insights on leadership, purpose, and spiritual growth in the teaching profession.

Hon. Sanie D. Ong, Member of the GSU Board of Regents (BOR), delivered a comprehensive lecture on leadership styles, outlining the distinct characteristics of autocratic, democratic, charismatic, and situational leaders.

He emphasized the paradigm of servant leadership, highlighting core principles such as listening first and speaking last, trading ego for stewardship, focusing on growth over control, acting as a dependable “captain of the ship,” and prioritizing well-being and trust. Hon. Ong stressed that the true test of servant leadership lies in being a good follower and remaining humble and genuine when dealing with others.

Complementing the discussion on leadership, Dr. Jonel P. Lañada, Program Head of the West Visayas State University (WVSU) Social Science Department, shared an uplifting message on vocation and personal calling. Dr. Lañada highlighted that being an educator is ultimately a purpose rather than merely a dream—noting that while a dream represents personal desire, purpose reflects God’s desire. Drawing from his own life experiences and personal testimony, he illustrated how God continuously works in one’s life to align personal aspirations with divine purpose.

To express gratitude for their tireless service, the event concluded with a heartwarming appreciation segment where faculty and staff received special gift packs sponsored by Hon. Sanie Ong. The event successfully rekindled the faculty and staff’s passion for teaching and reinforced the vital role of servant leadership in shaping the future of GSU students.
