The Guimaras State University (GSU) conducted a General Lecture Activity on August 24, 2026, at the Agri-Eco Convention Hall, GSU Salvador Campus, bringing together selected students from different colleges of the university, along with their Deans, Program Heads, and selected faculty members.
The activity featured distinguished delegates from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Malaysia, who shared their expertise on emerging technologies, education, research, innovation, and international opportunities.
The lecture series featured four resource speakers and their respective topics:
Ts. Dr. Manoranjitham Muniandy opened the discussions with “The Future You Can Feel: How Virtual Reality and Haptics are Changing Human Lives.” She explored the growing impact of virtual reality and haptic technologies and how these innovations are transforming the way people interact with digital environments.
Meanwhile, Ts. Dr. Fatin Shamimi M Zuki presented “Exploring the World Beyond Reality and Interactive Live Virtual Reality (VR) Technology Demonstration for GSU Faculty and Students.” Beyond the discussion, participants were given an opportunity to experience the technology firsthand as selected attendees immersed themselves in an interactive VR demonstration, providing a glimpse into how virtual environments can create engaging and experiential learning experiences.
The discussion on emerging technologies continued with Ts. Dr. Siti Nurlaili Bt Karim, who tackled “Artificial Intelligence: Transforming Learning, Research, and Innovation.” She highlighted the potential of AI in supporting learning and research, as well as its role in driving innovation and creating new possibilities across different fields.
Completing the lecture series was Ts. Dr. Halimaton Saadiah Hakimi, Lead Delegate of UTP, who presented “Bridging Borders Through Innovation: An Overview of UTP and Malaysia.” She introduced participants to Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, highlighting its academic environment and learning experiences. She also gave the participants a glimpse of the university and shared insights into the rich culture and heritage of Malaysia, strengthening the cultural dimension of international engagement. She also looks forward to future student exchange collaborations between GSU and UTP, encouraging students to encounter the rich culture of Malaysia and immerse themselves in the academic learning experience in UTP.
Following the presentations, participants were given an opportunity to ask questions and seek clarifications from the resource speakers, allowing for a more interactive exchange of knowledge and perspectives.
Another significant highlight was the exchange of library materials between GSU and UTP. Mrs. Regina V. Traifalgar, University Librarian, represented GSU during the exchange, receiving materials from the UTP delegates while also turning over GSU’s materials to their counterparts. The exchange symbolized the strengthening of academic and cultural ties between the two institutions through the sharing of knowledge resources.
In recognition of the delegates’ contribution to the university’s academic and research community, the UTP delegates were also presented with their certificates as official editors of Himal-us, the official publication and multidisciplinary research journal of GSU.
The event concluded with a vibrant cultural performance by the Taga Isla Dance Company, providing a fitting celebration of culture and bringing the international academic engagement to a memorable close.
The General Lecture Activity served as an avenue for knowledge exchange, technological immersion, research inspiration, and cultural understanding, further strengthening GSU’s partnership with UTP and its commitment to internationalization, innovation, and global learning.
