GSU Seals Expanded Academic and Research Partnership with UTP Malaysia

September 29 – October 5, 2026 | Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia

On September 29 to October 5, 2026, as part of the Naveen Jindal Young Global Research Fellowship 2026 output of Prof. Adrian J. Forca, the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS hosted the Site Visit to Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) as the study focuses on the Smart Agriculture 4.0 Implementation.

As a core deliverable of Prof. Forca’s Naveen Jindal Young Global Research Fellowship 2026, he paid a formal courtesy call to the executive leadership of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. The executive meeting was attended by key UTP officials, including Prof. Ts. Dr. M Fadzil B. Hassan (Dean of Postgraduate and Research), Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Sobri B. Hashim (Chair, Department of Computing), Saravanan Muthiah (Vice Provost, Student Affairs), Prof. Ir. Dr. Rosdiazli B. Ibrahim (Director), and Nor Adela Bt Dinyati (Director, Student Enrichment), along with faculty members from the Department of Computing.

During the session, Prof. Forca presented a token of appreciation to UTP officials, recognizing the strong institutional ties established between GSU and UTP since 2024.

Building on this active partnership, the delegation engaged in high-level discussions with the Department of Computing to map out future initiatives. In a major strategic outcome, UTP executive leadership formally approved the proposed joint collaboration timeline for Fiscal Year 2027 implementation.

In alignment with ongoing immersive technology research, Prof. Forca explored UTP’s state-of-the-art Virtual Reality (VR) Laboratory. The session provided technical insights into panoramic visualization, spatial mapping, and immersive frameworks slated for integration into the VR360 Research Collaboration on Guimaras Island.

Furthermore, from October 1 to 3, 2026, UTP hosted a specialized site visit to the MARDI. The team conducted intensive field data collection at MARDI Point, focusing on Smart Agriculture 4.0 practices to support a research paper, a key output under the research fellowship anchored at O.P. Jindal Global University.

To support ongoing literature synthesis and publication efforts, Prof. Forca was also granted full access to explore UTP’s renowned Information Resource Center (Library). The successful week-long engagement marks a significant milestone in solidifying GSU’s presence in international agri-tech research and global academic mobility.
